100 Twitter Ready Quotes from the Best Motivational Speakers

by Brad Harmon on May 19, 2011 · 29 comments

Using quotes from someone who has authority on your topic is an effective way to support your point. Oftentimes, these quotes can be a microblog post in, and of, themselves. This makes them perfect for when you have a limited amount of characters, like on Twitter, to express your point. I’ve collected 100 such quotes that are ready for you to simply copy, paste, and share on Twitter.

These quotes were handpicked from my personal collection of quotes from ten of the best motivational speakers. Some of them will be familiar to you, but you may find a few you’ve never read. I’ve had great success with these quotes on my various Twitter accounts because all of these quotes are retweetable.

What Makes a Quote Retweetable?

Obviously, the quote has to be noteworthy for someone to want to tweet it.  What I see many people forget is that it also has to be formatted properly.  How many times have you went to retweet a quote, but it was over the 140 character limit?

You could use the official retweet function; however, you probably want the person to know you did it.  Chances are that they won’t know unless they make a habit of checking their official retweets (maybe Twitter will fix that one day).

To ensure that your quotes are retweetable, you must limit them to 120 characters or less.  Why?  The maximum length for a Twitter name is now 15 characters.  You’ll need to add room for the 5 characters they’ll need to add “RT @” and the space following your Twitter name.  That’s 140 – 15 – 5 leaving you with 120 characters.

I’ve used quotes for some time on my Twitter accounts, Dennis. I love them, and people seem to love to retweet them. I haven’t used them as much lately on my BFM or my personal account, but it’s only because I hadn’t taken the time to load my scheduled tweets since I’ve been back. I usually send out about 3 to 4 per day depending on the account. Glad you liked the list. I hope they come in handy for you in your tweets or just life in general.

My pleasure, Ashvini. That’s one of my favorites too. One that I tell people at least once a week is:

“You are the only one who can use your ability. It is an awesome responsibility.” – Zig Ziglar

It reminds me to be true to myself when I’m tempted to try to be like someone else or wish that I had their gifts.

This is quite a compilation…too much for me to read at once, actually! such awesome quotes. I don’t quote a quote in my tweets, I really don’t know why. If I like quote tweeted by someone I just retweet it, maybe I need to use this post to get tweet quotes of my “own”!

I love great quotes, Hajra. I’ve been surprised by how many times people will tell me they needed that quote at that particular moment in their life. I’ll hear a quote and think about it all week. Dennis doesn’t see the point – I get that. Not everyone will respond to quotes the same way.

Every time you get a retweet you’re being shared on someone else’s twitter feed. That’s an opportunity to introduce yourself to their followers. So, in that respect, why not include them for the additional exposure?

I don’t remember when was the first time I fell in love with quotes. I appreciate it every time I read it from text, wall, love letter, bulletin board etc. Quotes are everywhere, always keep much in your heart because it can be your tools in solving problems or where you can show inspirations to other. Most coach, motivator, guru, adviser never live without a quotes. I just want to share the quotes I can’t forget from my mother since I was a child. “Learn what is good and bad and decide who I will be.”

Welcome to the site, Kimya. I appreciate you leaving a comment on your first visit here. Since I published this post, I’ve had 30+ retweets of quotes across all of my Twitter accounts. At least two of those retweets has led to an ongoing conversation that’s helping to build new relationships. You just never know where a retweet will lead which is one of the reasons I’m a proponent of using them on Twitter.

Hey Brad,

Excellent take on quotes and twitter. People love quotes and they have a high probability of getting ReTwetted. This is a great way to gain exposure, if you tweet a quote someone likes of course your name is attached to it. It can be a door opener for meeting new people or them wanting to know what you’re about.

Ya know? It can spark curiosity of “what’s this person about?” “wonder why this quote inspired them”

Also you mention characters and length of tweets. It’s important for people to stay within the 140 character mark because I know for me I don’t always have time to click on the link that takes me to the remainder of the tweet, so good point here.

When you RT someone you may have to do some altering to fit the 140 (texting language to shorten words sometimes), but still give credit where credit is due.

It does give us some insight into a person, Chelsea. Great point. We should probably make sure that our tweets are germane to what our followers expect to read from us.

I agree with you on keeping in mind the character restrictions placed on our tweets. The ones above are already shortened so that someone can use the old retweet style without having to worry about editing the quote. Make it as easy as possible and you increase the likelihood the quote will be retweeted.

I do like quotes, most of the time I try retweeting with some of my favorite ones but 140 becomes just too less so most of the time if I like the quote tweeted by someone I just retweet it. Quotes are amazing lines which speaks a lot and touches our hearts in amazing ways.

I run into that same problem, Micah. You see a great quote only to find you can’t retweet it as is because it exceeds the 140 character limit. Hopefully, you can find some favorites in the quotes above and know that you will be leaving enough room for other people to retweet it without running against the 140 limit. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on quotes with us.

I find quotes do quite well on Twitter where RT’s are concerned, and personally I love the ones that have the power to shift your thinking, motivate, or encourage you in just a few short words or sentences.

One I love that isn’t up there (Tony Robbins) helped change my limiting beliefs about money.
“Money is nothing but a representation, a means to measure the exchange of value between people”.

For some reason, once I started to think of money in this light, earning it didn’t seem quite as hard.
